Casuals 0 Poole Town 3 – Match Report

Match report by Conor Faherty

Walton sucker punched by promotion chasing Poole

Poole Town came out 3-0 winners on a gloomy afternoon in Surrey.

Two goals from Harry Baker in the first half and a header from William Spetch in the second half was enough for all three points.

Poole started the game the better side playing the ball around well although they will be slightly concerned as captain Jamie Whisken had to come off inside seven minutes due to injury.  An impressive early shot was smartly saved by Walton’s keeper Joseph Wright which really set the tone for the game.  Walton really struggled to get a foothold in the game, with Rene Howe and James Ewington becoming increasingly isolated in a formation which some Casuals fans couldn’t understand.

Poole went onto punish a static Walton, Baker giving Poole the lead on 21 minutes a cross field ball was headed down across the box by Marvin Brooks and Baker was there to fire home from a tight angle.  He then had his second eight minutes later after the ball was slipped through to him, he dispatched calmly past onrushing Wright.

It was then game, set and match 13 minutes into the second half after a Poole free kick was floated into the box and Spetch placed his header past the goalkeeper.  The game was then seen out comfortably by the visitors and they had a shot crashing off the bar as they looked for four.

Walton saw a lot more of the ball as they looked to get a consolation, they huffed and puffed but were unable to test the dolphin’s keeper Mark Childs who had a very comfortable afternoon.

Testing times this for Casuals as they continue to float just above the relegation zone. The lack of creativity and attacking threat will be a real worry for manager Steve Conroy.  The Stags however don’t have to wait long to try and bounce back as they travel to Blackfield & Langley on Tuesday night.

A very disappointing afternoon overall for Casuals but credit to the fans who made all the noise in the pouring rain and stayed around to show their support to the players and coaching staff.
