Tell us about yourself.
I’m Greg, I’m 20 years old and I, alongside my girlfriend run the Twitter page TTFC FANS which we set up at the start of the season. My first Taunton game was way back in 2006 when my Dad took me as a little boy to my first ever game in the Southern League Div 1 South and West. It all started from there! The last decade has been interesting as a TTFC fan, experiencing near relegation scraps, an FA Cup first round appearance and a league title win last season. The past 4 years have been so successful for the club with crowds on the up and the football club well and truly now on the Taunton map, whereas this was not the case before. I have won supporter of the season twice in the past (2015-16 and 2016-17) and my love for the club is immense!
It’s ridiculously tight in this division, with everyone capable of beating everyone else on their day. You lost last time out to promotion rivals Salisbury, however Weymouth then lost at home to Basingstoke at the weekend. Do you believe you have enough within the squad to see the rest of the season through and grab that top spot?
Incredibly tight would be the right way to describe this division! Anyone can beat anyone on their day and we have definitely found that out with some defeats on the road and some tough games where we have had to grind out wins. The Salisbury defeat last time out was hard to take as we were 1-2 up with 11 men, then we had 2 sent off and lost in the last minute. The Weymouth-Basingstoke result also proves the unpredictability of this league! I do definitely think we have enough in us to go on and win the league, there is still a long way to go yet but we are still in a good position and I have faith in our squad.
The three behind you all have games in hand. Who do you fear the most in the race for the automatic promotion place?
Met Police are definitely a massive threat with only one defeat since September I believe and in a brilliant run of form, but I still fear Weymouth with the money available to them and the size of the club, they definitely will have a big say in who goes on to lift the title and of course Salisbury are still in it too and they are only one point behind now.
Highlight of the season so far?
Quite a few to choose from! Had a late goal at local rivals Tiverton back in August, the game at Billericay in the FA Cup but for me it’s got to be Salisbury at home being 2-3 down in the 90th minute and going on to turn it round and win 4-3 it was absolute scenes on the terraces.
Who’s been your player of the season so far, in your opinion?
Again a hard one this, we have a few contenders but for me it’s midfielder Ryan Brett, he just controls the midfield, makes us tick, stays calm and composed and can hit a belter of a free kick!
You beat us 4-0 in the reverse fixture a couple of months back. Did any of our players catch your eye or is there anyone on our side that you’re wary of?
I thought 4-0 did flatter us slightly. Thought you came here and passed the ball well and looked a technicality decent side with a few individual good players (unsure on names that night) your goalkeeper was a top bloke and took the banter well which is always good.
How do you see the game going on Saturday?
I am expecting a tough game up at your place and we will need to be at our best to pick up the 3 points. Another 3G pitch to come across so that is another challenge as it can be hard to find your rhythm being so used to playing on grass.
What can we expect from the travelling fans.
The TTFC fans love to make a proper day of it on away games with a few drinks before the game and a good sing song during the game! We will bring a healthy number and are looking forward to a new ground!
I’m going to go for a 1-2 Taunton win.
Tip for the league title??
Head says Weymouth, Heart says us!
