The season is back! And so is The View From The Oppo.
First up we have Supermarine fan David who’s stepped up to answer some questions on their pre-season and hopes for the season ahead.
Tell us about yourself.
Was born just outside Plymouth so have followed Argyle all my life but always enjoyed non-league. Have lived near Swindon for 20 plus years and followed Marine for most of that time. There are 30 or 40 of us who travel to most away games but we rarely all stand together!! Small group started last season @SwindonSuperma1 who have flags and are starting to make more noise home and away.
How did your preseason go?
Mixed preseason, as they always are. We only lost to Swindon Town and Forest Green, who both sent full squads. We drew a couple and won a few including beating NLS Hungerford. A few triallists and various formations tried, we signed 7 or 8 of last year’s squad on contracts soon after the season ended and most of the others have stayed plus a couple of additions Kane Simpson and Ben Withey. A couple of last season’s squad have moved on but fans are happy going into the season.
Are you feeling confident heading into the new season?
Doesn’t every fan feel confident in August! Seriously though our first season in the Premier Division last year was a learning curve. The squad changed throughout the season and we finished pretty strongly after a slow start. Keeping most of the team that finished last season is encouraging so hopefully we will improve on last year and finish top 10 at least.
And what are your hopes for the team this season?
Play offs and a nice cup run. We made the 2nd round a few years back, would be good to repeat that.
6 points from local rivals Salisbury would also make us very happy.
Which of your players are you most excited about this season?
Top scorer Conor Mcdonagh will hopefully be in contention for a golden boot again. Harry Williams who joined towards the end of last season looks to have much potential to be a threat at this level
What away day are you looking forward to going to most?
Walton Casuals I didn’t make it last year. Many fans are planning a weekend in Cornwall when we play Truro.
Tip for the title?
Taunton will be the team to catch I think.
Who will be the dark horse of the league this year?
We have a prediction league on the fans forum and I went 3 – 2 to Marine so will stick with that.
You’ve starving and have exactly £3 in your pocket. What’s your meal deal?
Born in Cornwall so it’s got to be a proper pasty. The ones at Supermarine are very good.
