Walton Casuals Football Club were saddened this week to hear of the passing of former player Lionel Williams.
Lionel (Pictured left of the GK as you look) played in different positions as a utility man for both the first team and second XI and also briefly took on managerial duties for the second XI back in the 90’s. He was presented with ‘Club Man of The Year’ in 1994/95, which was the promotion season that saw us gain senior status and start a new era. He was very well thought of and highly regarded around the football club.
Former Second XI manager Chris Westphal has fond memories of having to stop off on the way to every game so that Lionel could grab a bunch of bananas to eat before the game, and Steve Lucas remembers him as 'Two handed Lionel' due to his tendency to always be clutching a bottle of Becks in each hand in the bar after a game.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
We will be holding a minute’s applause in memory of Lionel before tomorrow's game.
