The Walton Casuals Academy is led by Kelly-Jade Whelan as Academy Manager with Anthony Gale as head of football coaching. So far this season it has been a huge success, 19 male and female footballers have combined to bring both education and football together in one programme.
The BTEC education allows the students to work through sports related assignments whilst combining also modern day topics. Completion of this two year course will allow students to move forward into University, American scholarships or first team football.
This isn't the only education they gain as Kelly-Jade and Anthony have a strict policy on teaching the players basic etiquette and respect around the club especially when representing Walton Casuals FC. Simple basic skills such as addressing management in the correct way, respecting opposition’s players and staff, shaking hands and being educated with different communication skills that can be transferred both on and off the football field.
On The field having Anthony; first team manager, as the academy coach allows a strong link and easy pathway for the boys and girls. Academy goal keeper Elgi Fejzo has already shown real credibility in starting in both the league and cup games for the first team with academy captain, George Burnham also playing and scoring on his debut for the first team.
Anthony has brought Walton Casuals and the academy close together as they run through similar patterns and techniques with the academy mirroring what the first team work on. Alongside this, an attitude of “If you are good enough then you are old enough'' has given these young men real hope, whilst Kelly-Jade as the Ladies first team captain has also allowed the likes of Sarah Kennedy, Katlyn Lewis and Olivia Gregory to find a pathway to the ladies first team.
Tuesday 19th February also sees the first opportunity to be involved in Walton Casuals Academy trial day. From 1.30pm - 5pm boys and girls will have the opportunity to speak to everyone involved within the academy, see just how the video analysis and classroom are used and have a session with the coaches. A perfect opportunity to place themselves in a position to join the Walton Casuals Academy in September 2019 through the BTEC in Sport, our new University Degree in Sports Coaching and our Traineeships.
Academy Captain George Burnham - “So far, my first year in the academy has been a huge success for everyone involved with the development of myself. I have come a long way since August thanks to the Academy. Being captain has really made me find my voice on the pitch as I was very silent before; this responsibility has made me overcome this. My goal for the first team was a major achievement in my season so far especially on my debut which was my dream to start for the first team. As of next year, the new recruits and first team squad is very exciting because of the quality as of which I will be tested against making me improve my game."
There's now just seven days until our trial day where we invite both boys and girls aged 16 - 24 years old. Please get in contact with Academy Manager Kelly-Jade Whelan at email@example.com to receive further information on registration for our trial day on the 19th February. We look forward to welcoming you down to our amazing facility.
